various problems surfing the net. i can connect via my isp but ie6 is not working properly so i can't surf or e-mail. trying lots of advice, one of which is to flush the dns using ipconfig /flushdns in the command line. i've done this however when i type in ipconfig /displaydns, 12 dodgy porn site names are listed, all with the same ip address. this is what's possibly stopping me surfing. can anyone advise me how to get rid of these dodgy ip addresses - i'm at my wit's end.

Nan Ominous have you cleared your IE history and deleted all references in your registry?

i've cleared the ie history. how do i delete all references in the registry. i've done a search in the registry using ctrl f for the dodgy ip address and delete the entry, but it keeps coming back

After your delete use F3 to continue searching until all references are deleted.

ps don't forget to save your reg to desktop (Export Registry File) just in case you delete something in error.

i have been pressing f3 and deleting all references, but the ip address still shows when i do ipconfig/ displaydns again.

There is the option of Disabling Client-Side DNS Caching, well sort of, it doesn't disable it it just lets it sit there for one second and the gets rid instead of the years that it can sit there.

Go to..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters

On the Edit menu, click Modify. Type 1, and then click OK.

Chris

will try tonight when i get home. thank you for all responses..
