ip address on Acer laptop

I have an Acer Aspire 3610 running XP Home. I just took it back to its factory settings as it was running slow. It works ok on the inernet when I use the ethernet cable to the modem, but when I try to use it wirelessly it says it is connected but has the smessage,"searching for an IP address". It does not find one after looking for ever.I did everything I normally do which has always worked in the past. Suggestions welcome.

Try deleting the wireless profile, then search again.

I did as you suggested and it is now working as well as it always did.
