The Invisible esata drive

  craneman01 18:17 18 Jul 2007

Have just purchased a Seagate external HDD with USB & esata connections.
Plug the drive into USB port & it goes & sees it immediately.
Plug it into the computer using an esata port & it doesn't see it at all.
Have contacted the computer supplier & they tell me the esata port on the computer doesnt need activating. Have tried to contact Seagate but they are ignoring me. Have plugged it into another computer with esata port & it also doesnt see it.
Have plugged the drive into an ordinary sata port (with a different appropriate cable obviously) to see if pypassing the external socket would prove anything or if the originalcable was faulty but still can't see it. The copmputer is only a couple of months old so the motherboard/drivers are up todate
Any ideas guys !!!!!

BIOS settings to make sure that the port is activated there...I doubt it would be by default.

Been into the BIOS. found the relevent section & they are all on auto detect. The two ports that are in use (& I used one to put an internal drive in which auto detected no problem) are exactly the same settings as the empty ports
