Intrusion attempts

over the last few days my norton keeps popping up warning me of intrusion attempts like the example below
im on a single pc (no network) on winxp sp2 so it would seem from norton website that this is not a threat - but it keeps happening.
from the ip address it seems to be a nearby number with the same isp as me
i cant get any response from my isp (bt) and also notice that my neighbour has the same problem also on bt
ive turned off the warnings and the firewall is doing its job - will it stop in the end or should i do more
ive run virus scans, updated windows etc
thanks

Probably your ISP pinging you connection.

Turn off the alerts and surf secure in the knowledge that Norton is protecting you.

sorry i dont understand what you mean
could you explain

  ACOLYTE 22:25 20 Mar 2006

Sometimes ISP's will randomly ping a pc to test the connection strenght and line quality. They could have done 1000's of pc's at once not just yours.

but its been happening about every hour for a week
does this make sense
thanks

They may be doing upgrades or repairs on the lines/exchange and are testing to see if everything still works as it should.

You really do not need to worry about this. It is called 'handshaking' and it is computers communicating with each other. If this didn't happen the internet would not work. Turn off the alerts.

Im with VoG™ just enjoy the PC and let Norton do its job.
