Internet-upstream and downstream?

  The_$@!nt 13:53 16 Apr 2004

Yesterday I went to a site where it carries out a test on your internet speeds. I have a 1MB cable modem and had the following results....

Downstream=989 kb/sec
upstream=245 kb/sec

Does this mean that when I bought a 1MB internet connection, that speed is for the downstream only?

I think you can have 512 upload speed but will need to pay extra for it. Not too sure on this point but have seen it advertised with some ISP's. j.

Upstream is also slower with dialup.

I am on NTL 600k b/b, i have just spoken to them regarding this.

i was told that the upload speed will be about a quarter of the Paid for speed, so 600k down and 150 up for me, yours sounds about right at 245.

dont know about Djohn's suggestion but he is normally on the ball.

but when you think about it, 99% of users download a lot more data than we upload so it makes sense to have that ratio
