Internet sharing & Security

I have just managed to get my laptop to share my PC's broadband internet connection via a firewire cable between the two.

What I wonder now is, given that it only connects to the internet through the host PC, is the laptop protected by the latter's firewall and anti-virus software ?

The firewall should be ok but I'd install an AV onto the laptop to be safe.

In an ad-hoc link, the software firewall on the host cannot control program access/behaviour on the client. It can only have control over the client itself.
