Internet Security.

I have been using for many years Norton Internet Security, which is due for renewal later next week.

If I was to replace it, which brand or brands could I use as a suitable replacement?

Either free or paid.

I am researching for a good AntiVirus/AntiSpam suite; a good Firewall and something that is good at stopping Spyware and Adware.

I live in Spain and currently have dial-up.

My system is Windows XP Pro; SP3.

All ideas welcome.

For goodness sake why is there a "search forum" at the top of this page?

"For goodness sake why is there a "search forum" at the top of this page?"

Maybe ricardoespana is new to the forums and just did not see or understand what the 'Search forum' box at the top of the page was for.

Either way, a little more tolerance and understanding may prove to be more welcoming and less off putting to new or inexperienced users.

norton internet security 2009 is greatly improved over previous versions, you can get a oem copy [no manual or box] cheaply.

Use the link provided by RobTheOrganGuru.

I asked the same question years ago, got told "why pay for something when the free stuff is just as good", and I'll be honest I've never looked back.
In fact the only "paid for" program on my pc is MS Office, everything else is free.

Try the freebies, you won't loose anything.

Sorry Folks about that anyway.

It does not matter, we all live n learn as we go along. So both you and i have learnt something today ;-))

So Rob, what did you decide upon?

  ricardoespana 21:50 18 Jun 2009

SB23 and other contributors.

I have always had Norton, but having read on various threads, here and elsewhere that many people use free stuff, I thought I would try and ask directly for opinions, but when one does some research, I sometimes find there is not one 'thread' that has all the major brands together, which are updated, say, every three months, so one can compare.

I know it is a question of personal preference, but personal opinions count.

What may have been in vogue, shall we say 3 or 6 months ago, may not necessarily be in the running stakes now.

Thank you for some useful hints and not very helpful thoughts.
