Internet pages slow, flashing pc light

I have virgin cable 2mb. Its worked fine for months, but a few weeks ago, it started to take ages to load internet pages.

I performed a speed test. The download rate was very good (2000kbps), though the upload rate was poor (40kbps). However, I performed another few today and the upload rate improved to its normal rate of around 250 kbps. The internet still loads slowly however.

The 'pc' light is constantly flashing on the modem. I seem to remember that it should be solid like the 'power' and 'cable' lights- is that right?

Does anyone have an idea as to what could be the problem, given that speed tests suggest there is no bandwidth restriction?

Ive run several anti- spyware/ virus checks to no avail. done the turn off and on thing... but dont know what else to try....

oh, another thing- online games dont seem to be affected, at least not to the extent of browsing the internet. Is that wierd?

Thanks for any aid, in advance..
