Internet Modem Cable

I cannot connect to the internet as I receive the message "Computer you dialled is not connected." As all connections are in place I was advised to buy a new internet modem cable. This I did, but my old cable has six wires in it and the new one only four. I did try it, but it didn't make any difference. Do I need to try and find one with six wires or do they only have four now? Could there be something else I could try?

Your cable only uses 2 wires anyway, have you ever connected ? Wrong Number ?

If the cable was faulty you would get "no dial tone".

What ISP are you trying to connect with?

"Telnet" into your ISP, that way you'll know if the "on the wire" connection is OK...

What have you done before this occurred, Also your Operating System would help
