I was looking through my Network Connections through control panel because I had accidently disabled my NIC card and noticed that I have a symbol , the world with a monitor in front , is best I can describe it , it reads ...
Internet Gateway
--------------------------------
Internet Connection
Disconnected
Internet Connection.

What is it and what is it used for ?

Below this is my NIC card

Lan or High Speed Internet
---------------------------

Local Area Conecction
Connected
AMD PCNET Family PCI Ethernet Adapter.

You don't need to worry about it as long as you can get an Internet connection. It's basically if you have set up a shared broadband connection it appears. Mine says Connected and gives the connected speed, but your setup might be different so it says Disconnected.

The Internet Gateway symbol is showing in Network connections , I have opened My Network Places with 'Show Icons for networked UPnP devices' and its showing my BT Home Hub there twice for some reason , If I choose to show UPnP devices is everything correct in that a symbol shows in both Network Connections and My Network Places ?
