Is Internet Explorer 6 still secure?

Is Internet Explorer 6 still secure and is it still updated with security patches or not?

It is being used on an older laptop and hasn't been updated to IE7 due to possibility of overall slow down.

So I am wondering if it is still secure to use credit card etc on, or are there unpatched security weaknesses, now that IE7 exists ?

I would consider it sensible to use the latest version of any browser if you are spending money on line. You can always uninstall IE7 if the PC does slow down or use Firefox either way. No browser/OS is 100% secure or bug free but newer is better.

Browsing speed can be affected when you use the Phishing filter but you are given the option to enable/disable it when you run IE7 for the first time.

Microsoft issued a cummulative security update for Internet Explorer only a few days ago as part of its second Tuesday in the month security updates:

The vast majority of IE users are almost certainly still using IE6.

If you uninstall IE7 you revert to IE6.
