Internet Connections/Broadband

Do I need a modem if my internet connection is via broadband? Am thinking of signing up to the Sky Broadband package.

The reason for my question is that I am in the process of buying a pc for the first time in a long time and have not currently got an internet connection at home. The PCs I have been looking at have got network cards - not sure if these mean modems are not necessary.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

If your signing up with sky, they supply a modem/router free,it will enable you to go wireless if you wish

Mao Calzone,

The router that Sky provide can be connected via the supplied ethernet cable to the port of the PC as well as by wireless.

Sometimes there is confusion over the term "wireless router" thinking that it is for wireless connecting only.

The router will come preset with your username and password so it is literally a case of plugging it all together and off you go.
