Internet connection issue

I have a wireless network set up at home, and work on a laptop downstairs connecting through a wireless connection. Suddenly this morning I cannot connect to any Internet site or receive e-mail or get any connection. BUT the icon in the toolbar says that I am connected and that the signal strength is excellent. Tried re-booting - still problem. Laptop runs WinXP, haven't installed anything recently or updated any software or drivers. Router is working okay. Any ideas?

Have you tried switching everything off at the mains for 5 minutes? not just a reboot but disconnecting everything rooter and computer. This was the advice I had from the BT helpline and it works for me.
