Is there any way to ensure that you are buying from a reputable company and that your a/c details are secure before purchasing on the net.
Any advice would be appreciated

Look for the padlock down at the bottom right when you come to give card details etc., Also a secure webpage should commence with the the letters https - not just http. Check this. Many secure websites also use a secure pay option run by Thawte, World Pay and suchlike. There are options on most websites to check the security options. Try one of the shopping comparison websites such as these on Google click here and look for feedback on the retailer you intend to purchase from. Provided you take reasonable care you should have little difficulty purchasing online.

Should have said "look for a CLOSED padlock"
