Internet access for my laptop and desktop

I have internet access at home via my ntl set top box. I would like to be able to set up my laptop so that I can do the same at home without having to take cables out of my desktop to connect to my laptop. Is it possible to buy a connector that allows permanent access to my desktop and that I can plug into whenever I need to use my laptop?

You only have one lead basically from your ntl box. I believe you can choose usb or ethernet. Which one do you currently use?

You could always network the two computers together to use the same internet connection. If they already have ethernet connnectors, all you'll need is a crossover cable - if not you'll need a network card too.

I leave my network cable plugged into my desktop so when I want to use the laptop on line I just have to connect it.
