Internal Hard Drive Replacement for Sony Vaio SZ!

  jaycole 11:26 16 Dec 2009

Hi there,

Ony my partners personal laptop we want to change the internal 2.5" harddrive from 80gb to something larger.

I have been told the max we can go to is 120gb but not sure whether this is correct. Does anyone know for sure?

I think confusion may have arisen from the fact that the SZ was available from Sony with a SATA hard drive up to 120GB.

I cannot see why you could not upgrade to a much bigger capacity drive.

This may help too click here

transferring the OS onto the new Hard Drive.

Maybe you'd better sort that one out first.

OS side of things is sorted thanks.

your limit is not the capacity of the Hard Drive, but the shape of the space available to place it.

Sony are a bit like Dell in this, I can't see where "bremner" got the Sony bit from, they have a habit of using items made specifically for them which means that other manufacturers "off the shelf" products may not fit that space.

"I can't see where "bremner" got the Sony bit from"

What would you like clarifying?

I have replaced a number of HDD on Vaio's and have yet to encounter anything other than a standard HDD.

When, over 320GB 2.5" drives first came out, some manufacturers drives were thicker and did mean they could not be accommodated in some machines.
