intermitant start up.

windows XP home, ca av. adware 2007
somtimes my p.c. boots up normal then other times loads only very few and differnt items in the task bar when it dose this anthing i try to open takes ages or wont open at all. i have had a look at start up and disabled what i dont want but still have this intermitent prob. anyone any ideas....cheers peg

It would be useful. Do a disk check instead; click here

Start menu/run, type cmd, press return,

CHKDSK c: /f

at the command prompt. You may need to reboot.

run chkdsk but still same prob somtimes programs start ie IE, somtimes they take forever. still geting diferent combos of programs in taskbar. anything else I can try

Did you follow brundles suggestion by running SFC ?

You may not need the windows disc if your os was preinstalled and have a hidden partition with the recovery/restore program.

Try it and see what happens:

Start/Run and type

sfc /scannow
and enter

Note the space between c /

This may take some time.

run scannow asked for windows there somting else I can try.should I have been given a win cd. had my p.c made to spec in small high st shop that has now closed ?

wow looks a bit advanced for me not sure about changing reg files.dont I still need win cd or restore cd for this 1386 file ?

are theese protected files out of reach of RESTORE
