I am due to receive a base unit with no operating system as i have windows xp home edition on cd (original). Is it straight forward by putting the cd in the cd rewriter and following instructions. If not can anyone give me any tips on installing as I have never done this before.

Yes, it's as easy as putting the CD in and booting from it.

Make sure the BIOS is set to boot from CD

Have your motherdoard, grapics, etc drivers ready to install as soon as your Windows install is complete

Have an anti-virus package ready to install before you connect to the web

Before you install any other applications, connect to the web and get all the Windows updates (that'll take some time)

Then you install applications - then you're ready to go.
