Installing Software

For software to work with full functionality, must it be installed on the same drive as the operating system? e.g C:Programme Files.
Can I install it on an external drive? Or USB stick?

is yes.

The operating system's registry will 'know' where to go to load the software application, and as long as you don't move anything all will be fine.

Reminds me of my first pc a gateway which came with the recently released windows 95.

The hard drive was in two partition C drive with 2GB of space and a larger amount for D drive.

Knowing nothing about computers i loaded loads of software and just followed the on screen instructions and in no time the C drive was full and the pc crashed.

well had to phone the free support only option was a low level format and reinstal of O/S on C and all programs when on D.

I was on the phone for best part of an afternoon, but in those days gateway support was a freephone number with first class service.

[benefit quickly learnt how to install an O/S and load drivers]
