having bought a new computer i tried to install my old copy of office 97 on it, however, it keeps saying that it has searched the hard disk and can't find any of the qualifying products listed on the office 97 box,it also says click to select a drive that contains one of the qualifying products, i'm lost!!!!!!!!have tried Program Compatibility Wizard but nothing happened.

Your copy of Office 97 may be an upgrade?

I seem to remember having a similar problem which was satisfied by putting the first floppy disk from an old version of Word or Access.
All I had to do was to put Disk 1 in A: and direct the Office demand to Drive A:

This is clearly an upgrade version of '97 and you need to find and insert the installation disk from the earlier version before installation will run. If you don't have this, you will need to either get one or a full installation CD of '97. You can get one of the latter from Ebay for as little as £10

I'd forget about the old Microsoft product and go for OpenOffice click here

Better than ancient versions of MS Office and it's free.
