I have been advised by people on the forum to download a firewall as I have just been using the windows xp one.I downloaded comodo's but when I opened it,it said to disable any third party firewall.Does this mean I should disable windows built in firewall? Thanks.

No, thats a first party firewall. You are fine to go ahead.

To be concise..YES ! Only one firewall should be active.

First party = the provider, in this case Microsoft.
Second party = you.
Third party = any other software you loaded or loaded by your PC manufacturer. So Comodo is a third party firewall in this case.

In case you find the above conflicting, most third party firewalls when you install them will automatically disable the Windows firewall. The problem comes as Nuts has said two firewalls is not clever and Comodo in this case has asked you to disable other third party ones. ( eg Zone alarm)

In this case I would just disable, briefly, the Windows one prior to install, but Comodo should do that for you. extra safe is download and SAVE comodo, go off line, disable Windows firewall and then install Comodo.
