Installing Intel Core2 Duo

I am in the process of installing the above and read in another magasine that they have thermal paste put on the Heat Sink in the factory.

I have looked and it does not look as though it has any.

Is this information correct?

I should add that I am using the standard cooler which came with the chip.

I read that too. If the thermal pad is already on it should have a plasticky film to remove first.

Just a thought. The pad isn't on the CPU is it?

The pad should be on the stock cooler and should look like click here

That is exactly what it does look like but there is no film to remove.

As a safeguard does anybody know if it will do any harm if I put a thin layer of paste on the top of the chip?

if your going to repaste its often wisest to clean the old off the heatsink and use only one compound

mixing can have or may have an effect as your using 2 diffrent chemical compounds one may be sillicon based while the other may be silver based

just somthing to note

As long as paste is not coming out the sides of the cooler once you fit it it should be ok.
