Installing a heritage scanner

  Glen 11:22 03 Jan 2009

I have moved up from Win 98SE to Vista Business, and am trying to re-install my Visioneer OneTouch 5600 USB scanner. Manufacturer describes it as "end of life". First I tried setting the compatability mode to Win98 without success. Then uninstalled the scanner and downloaded the latest driver, which was for versions up to Xp SP1. Then reinstalled from original disk. The compatability wizard only offered me XP SP2 or Win 2000. Tried Win 2000. The Paperport software opens, but clicking Twain brings up "check USB setting is enabled in BIOS". Other on screen nmessages read (1) The software for this device has been successfully installed & device is ready". (2) "Paperport Scan Manager has stopped working" (3) "The file c;\windows\System 32\ could not be opened"
How can I proceed?

Maybe telling you that it's not going to work with Vista?

I would download DriverMax (a free program) and run it to see what driver it suggests for your scanner - and then download that

You would need to uninstall the present driver first.
