Ive been given a laptop hard drive which has XP already on it. If I put this larger drive in my laptop as a replacement for the existing one (which has Windows ME on it ) will it boot up as XP?? If not,is there a way to do it?? Thanks in anticipation.

you will need the xp cd and key - when run and you get to the option to repair use that and the drive will be set to you pcs requirements.

Would it work if XP was already on the original drive..?? i.e the system would recognize it.

yes but it will be very unhappy as it will have the wrong specs on it for the motherboard. Unless of course your laptop has the identical mobo and hdd etc. as its original home.

it probably will not even load windows and you will have to boot from the xp cd only.
