My Norton has just about ended and I would like to install AVG but I am a bit nervous about doing it as I am a complete novice with anything to do with my pc.
I have been told that I would need to install an Antivirus,a Firewall,Adware,Spybot now I am very confused as to which I would need.
Please could someone help??

Important points (just my humble opinion)

Absolute minimum - AVG and Zone Alarm
(Both are light on demands for rescources.)

Spybot - (to run occasionally)

Method - download but DO NOT install yet.
Download the special Norton removal tool

Uninstall Norton using this tool.
Reboot, but do not go online yet.
Install both AVG and ZA following instructions of each.
Configure AVG to scan the system only on demand and to update automatically.

You will now be relatively safe and try alternative programs if you wish.

I would just add I ran Zone Alarm for years without problems. Last week however I had a problem with Firefox and Zone Alarm. Removing ZA and installing Comodo as firewall solved the problem. So I have been converted. All to his own!

Another opinion?

Avast! click here

SpywareBlaster

Comodo firewall click here

Essential to use the Norton removal tool first, though, NOT Add/Remove progs.
