as you can see i have installed XP and the pc takes a good half hour to boot up and is only using 3/10% of cpu sometimes and i mean rarely might go highr but i mean this is seriosly slow i had ME on it and it flew ,i also realise how memory hungry XP but my wifes pc the p2 300 flies compared to mine and it s a fresh install and im doing all security updates now i have put Winaso into it and im just waiting for updates to finish to reboot but i spect that would take half hour its rediculous,,any ideas or have i done something wrong ,,,!!

I run XP on a AMD K62 550 that did not take that long to boot and still run it on my sons 900 Duron with no problem

exactly so there must be a tweak would my hdd on the way out contribute to this kind of failing

  AaNnDdYy 02:08 29 Mar 2006

320,,thats how much is in it 327

That should be enough

well i know the hdd is on its way out as i had to get round a format problem today cause it has 6/7 bad sectors at the end but i dont use that end ,,lol
it used to fly so surely XP isnt that bad for speed cause like i say i have it in a p2 300 as well that im on now

Turning off the visual effects can make a big difference on slower system not with the boot up thou does sound like your hard drive.

Also switching off unnesseracy services
