Installation of Service Pack 2

  Confused! 12:43 17 Sep 2006

Can anyone help please? I have Windows XP Home. I vaguely recall downloading & installing the Service Pack 2 sometime ago. I think that I may have 'uninstalled it' (cannot remember how now) as windows updates kept on failing. I have again tried to reinstall it - from both the updates page and downloading it and installing it. It always fails. The updates it does automatically from Windows update always seem to be at 33% when I look and the updates fail.

Any ideas?

Right click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop>Properties>General tab.

If you have SP2 listed it will be in use on your system.

Essential that there are no spyware or viruses on yur PC before you attempt to install SP2.

The system shows SP1. I get a balloon pop up from the task bar every time I switch on saying 'support for Windows SP 1 ends ends October 10 2006'. The updates downloaded through automatic updates all fail. Any ideas?

I have run spybot - search & destroy & Ad aware. The antivirus program I have is run regularly.

Is the band of lights that scroll across the bottom of the Windows Logo

Green or Blue.

Is it failing to download or install?

It is green. It is failing to install - seems to download OK

Do you get that little Yellow Shield on the bottom right of the Task bar.

now you mention it - it is not there. I have a grey star shape which says that the support for SP1 ends in October if I hover over it!

If you uninstall SP1 and then install SP2 it includes SP1.

To add all the SP3 updates since the release of SP2 in August 2004, go to:
