I'm trying to install an mp3 player but get the message "an error accurred during installation of the device. The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for windows 95 or later. contact your hardware vendor."
the player is a ministry of sound stix and i'm running windows xp home adition on a Medion

did you install the software before plugging the player in?

  Flabbyfran 19:42 14 Oct 2004

yes i did everything by the book

try right clicking on the player in device manager and selecting update driver, you will probably be asked to insert the cd that came with it.

I've done that but i still get the same problem.

The player appears in the divice manager with no driver installed but i still get the same problem if i try and reinstall a driver. I Have tried the player in my sisters computer, she is running Win 98 and it works fine.
Very frustrating
Please help

  Flabbyfran 15:33 22 Dec 2004

You have to be an administrator to install software on an XP machine.

Ah I see but I am the administrator I'm afraid.
