install 98 on old slave

taken out old drives and put 40Gb in on end of cable as cable select when sarting install it is recognised still as E:\ and fault comes upsetup cannot write to the temporary directory insufficient disk space, check setup.txt

can't find setup.txt and am a bit stumped.

ran formatE:\ /s last night no probs

Any ideas?

Is it an 80 wire cable? - Cable select does not work on a 40 wire cable.

Jumper it as Master in case of any cable select problems.

Maybe what's already on the drive is confusing things. Try running a "zero-fill" drive cleaner first.

If it's set to slave which is better than cable select remove your other drive connector, and try running setup from Dos

PS if you have XP on C:\ I do not think you can put 98 on the slave it as to go on C:\ and XP on D:\

when running multi hdd could this be the problem had to do this to unhide it.
