I need to up grade my pc but i'm not sure on what i need.
I have a ASUS a7v333motherboard with a AMD Athlon 1800+ processor. What is the fastest Athlon i can put on this motherboard?

I need a new graphics card i currently have a Geforce 4 mx440 64MB. I've been looking at a FX5600 Ultra 128mb. I have around £150 to spend on one.

I've looked on DABS.com and have seen one by Gainward for £175 but their was a dabs own make of the same card for £120. Is their much differance in performance?

Many Thanks

aida32 will tell you the specs of what you have now and give you links to the manufacturers websites where you can get details on upgrades for each component etc. click here

for graphics cards check out the gpu and memory clock speeds(faster is better and more expensive) and games bundled with the card, flashy boxes etc,all affect the price.

Make sure you check out what type of slots ie; is it AGP (how fast) or are you stuck with PCI? Drivers are very important, no good in having a fast GPU and poorly written driver, dabs home brand may not be as fast as the branded version. Ignore sweetners such as games, check the specs.

by the specs of your board it will take whatever you decide you can afford to pay for.

Socket A for AMD® Athlon XP/ Athlon/ Duron 600MHz ~ 2GHz+

Expansion Slots
1 x AGP Pro
5 x PCI

Memory
3 x DDR DIMM Sockets
Max. 3* GB unbuffered PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 non-ECC SDRAM Memory

If your board in revision 2, you can go all the way upto XP 2700+ (333 FSB) with BIOS 1014 (released 28/10/2002). If it's revision 1.01, you'll be limited to an XP 2200+ (266 FSB). Neither revision supports the model 10 chips with 256K cache nor the XP 2500+ (333 FSB). This is taken from the AMD website.
