Multi Memory Card Reader on front panel (Compact Flash, SD, Smart Media, MMC)
on Advent T9303 P4 3.8GHz PC - XP sp2 1GB Ram

light comes on when cards inserted but but not registering in PC

is there a program to initialize this reader?
not showing up in system / device / My Computer etc.

With my multi card reader I had a Install cd. Does yours not have the same? I am also using XP Home(SP2).

These are usually connected to the USB headers on the motherboard. Sounds suspiciously like they have forgotten to re-attach them. Have they ever worked? They should show up in Windows Explorer as drives E,F, G etc

Check the lead that goes from the rear of the card reader to the header on the motherboard.

Also refresh all your usb ports in device manager.

Have had same problem on occasions. I have a canon MP machine with another card reader. I dont know why but when I used that as an alternative , the built in one worked after a reboot. Have you tried a simple reboot?

never worked just got pc at weekend and still finding my way around it.
will try a USB ports refresh tonight

and if not its inside the case to check connection

Seth Haniel. Then the seller should fix it for free as the "goods" are not "satisfactory". I would not open the case till you have spoken to them.

wasn't even mentioned in the spec - so would have been a bonus anyway - have USB card reades so no big deal - just nice to get everything working

not worth the effort and loss of PC for the week it would be away
