before you buy anything There is a freebie which is really quite comprhensive and plenty of tutorials its layout is VERY similar to adobes so if you progress to that it will be good training

IMHO there is nothing to touch Acronis and the cost at somewhere between £20/£30 will more than may for itself if you consider the days that it may take you to rebuild your system as is.
One little discussed advantage of Acronis is that it will allow you to mount (as opposed to restore)an image. This creates an instant new drive letter and within that drive you can access any files/data and other information which you may have lost or corrupted since the image was taken and since lost.
It takes a few seconds to create and is unmounted again with one click within the context menu.
