Image/Copy "D" Drive

I heard some strange sounds coming from my D drive and decided to buy a new disk to replace it. This is my problem: How do I copy everything from the old disk to the new disk - without having to attach the new drive, because I have no spare connection available?

Can I, somehow, copy/image drive D onto my C drive or perhaps my external drive; then remove the old drive and replace it with the new drive; then copy/image everything back onto it?

Or am I making this way more difficult than it actually is?

Thanks

Chris

Make a spare connection temporarily, by simply unhooking your optical drives and using that cable.
