I'm having real problems with my laptop

I have an Acer laptop running Windows XP.

I'm having some strange problems which I think are down to Windows but I don't really know. There are numerous problems but these are an example:

When I boot up the screen will show the first few steps but then go blank. I have to press the return key to continue.

Everything just seemed to freeze up and I couldn't get out of any application.

I have tried completing this post several times only to have the text suddenly vanish.

If this is a Windows problem should I delete and then reload it? How do I do this and will I lose any saved information.

Try a repair click here

This should leave all your applications, data etc. intact but if you have anything critical then you should backup to an external medium first.

I switched on this morning eveything seems to be operating properly.

I'll try the repair option if the same problems occur again.

Repair XP by replacing corrupt files

sfc /scannow

in the run box, press enter and let system file checker find and replace missing / corrupt file in windows and explorer. This will take awhile to complete and you may be asked for the CD to be in the drive if windows is not preinstalled on the hard drive.
