iexplorer.exe failed to initialise

the exact error message is

the application failed to initialize properly (0xc00000000005)

can anuone advise what to do.

i am obviously on back up machine now.

no idea what caused it, there is definitely a adsl connection because outlook express works fine.

what can i do.

i have scanned for viruses, spyaware etc, no joy.

i do not use norton, so other thread does not help

i have w2000 sp4 and do not use norton so VoG's advise does not help me

any more ideas?

is there any way of uninstalling then reinstalling internet explorer?

I don't know if it's the same in W2000, but in XP Add/remove programs/add /remove windows components click on IE and follow instructions. You could look to see if it's the same.

using mozilla for now, i'm sure i'll get used to it.

i'm afraid the other suggestions had no effect.

any more ideas would be welcomed

search for IE.inf right click it and choose install this should repaire IE
