ie8, vista - delete downloaded prog files

when i go into ie8, tools, internet options, general tab, browsing history, settings, view objects there are some objects i want to remove but i cannot delete anything it won't allow me.
right click just gives properties flag, organise - delete gives nothing, delete on keyboard does nothing too. scanned for virus and spyware - nothing. am trying to delete 2 damaged hexadecimal entries but cannot delete ANY of the objests - pls help!!

ps tried safe mode and even cmd prompt

From Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Tab - try a "reset" ie: "Reset Internet Explorer Options" - then OK and restart IE.

thanks for suggestion but no joy. can't even rename files. they are both active x files.

Have you tried in "safe mode" ?

so it looks like i cant remove them?? how strange is that? can do it in win 7.

will look on my other vista machine to see if its just vista..

Just tested it in Windows 7 - I deleted an Active X file and restored it.

rsturbo - sorry I misread your comment "can do it in win 7" - I had read it as a question ie: can you do it in Win 7 - that's why I tried it out.
