ie8 upgrade

Hi folks
I was just round my mums and I started her PC upgrading from ie7 to ie8. When I got home I got a call from her saying that the drop down list of typed addresses had gone - I can't remember if this happened when I upgraded. But more annoyingly when she types addresses in, they are not saved: no matter how many sites she's visited, when she presses the little down arrow at the right of the address bar there's no drop down list.
I've never had this problem so I couldnt help her without being there to tinker with the settings.
Can anyone think of what needs to be done to solve this?
Thanks.

In IE8, try clicking on Tools/Internet Options. In the General Tab, uncheck the Delete browsing history on exit.

For it to work in IE 8 you have to enable Autocomplete. Go to Tools - Internet Options - Content tab - Autocomplete Settings and tick Use Autocomplete for Web Addresses and Forms.

Also on Advanced tab tick Use Inline Autocomplete - click Apply and OK.
