IE taking a while to open pages

I am running ie 6.0 (i think... its the latest version anyway)on windows xp with a 2 Mb ADSL connection. I find that ie takes a long time to connect to a new location. Either by launching to homepage, moving to a new link, via favs, any method of opening a new page there is an initial delay getting there, then it loads very quickly. Download times are very fast. After some advice I unchecked "Automatically detect settings" in IE options > connections, but there is still a significant delay. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you Skidzy.... still the same but I've got a few new resources now... :-)

I am trying IE 7 Beta 3 and it seem faster than previous versions.

Ok... I may try that.... I'm thinking it may be something to do with the usb or modem settings tho as it seems to be an initial delay rather than a general slowness.... thank you for your help Mack1...
