I.E Problem! Arghhhhh!!!

  Tookeant 18:26 30 Jan 2008

I'm posting here as a last resort before I reinstall Windows XP or set my machine on fire.

My virgin broadband connection is fine. I can open and use Mozilla Fire Fox but I can't get I.E to connect. Msn Messenger wont connect either and I can't play p.c games that need an internet connection.

I'm not running I.E in offline mode, I'm not using a proxy server, I've disabled my firewall, I've run registry repair programs, cleared history, I've tried various Winsock fixes.

I've also tried:

netsh int ip reset ip.txt

reinstalling the driver for the network card

checked that tcp/ip is enabled in the properties box you get when right clicking the connection in Network cconnections.

ipconfig /release & renew ?

I've also ran 'Diagnose Connection Problems ' inside I.E and reset I.E 7 settings from within the tools > options area.

Looks like the only thing left is to reinstall XP!

Can anybody help me at all?

Have you tried system restore?Or try to reinstall IE.

If you uninstall IE7, It will revert to IE6.

It's worth trying, as IE7 does give trouble to some people.

Worth a try.

I take it that this is a new problem and that IE did work.
Have you installed anything new?
What anti-virus are you running and does it have a privacy setting?

I have to agree with Fingees. I too had this problem and couldnt correct it. A rollback to IE6 worked for me.

Thanks for the quick response all.

Well it looks like the best option is to uninstall i.e 7 and go back to 6.

One problem though. My add/remove programs is only displaying 4 out of say 40 programs. Strange. Guess I better go fix this problem first.

Ahhh, I now have i.e 6 installed and I still have the same problem.

  Woolwell 22:14 30 Jan 2008

Did you sort out your add/remove problem?
What anti-virus are you using?
