IE 8 not starting

Ref laptop running Windows XP. I'm able to establish a wireless on-line connection but can not run internet explorer. Everytime I try I keep getting the dialogue box telling me Internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to close. I was going to try updating IE from the microsoft web site, but not able to do this because internet explorer won't run!

I had the same problem with IE8. You could try this.
go to add remove programs (don't worry you cant actually remove IE as it is an intregal part of the windows system) but what you can do is revert back to the last version. This may solve your problem.

Try Internet options.Advanced,And press reset.
When downloading IE8 it sometimes removes some of your add-ons.The add-ons still show but the folders are empty. So maybe see what ones are working and what ones not working.
Now this was a problem when IE8 came out at first maybe be it has been sorted now.
While in there go to programs and make sure I/Explorer is the default web browser.
