i am in the middle of configuring my new pc but auto updates for ie7 keep popping up how can i stop this please, xp pro

Turn off automatic updates? Control Panel/Automatic Updates/Turn Off

update it?along with any other ms updates since the o/s was installed.

i seem to recall there was a way one could hide the update if they didnt want ie7? which is what i am after

I cant think of a reason not to?
IE6 is way out of date and insecure.
IE 8 is on the horizon once through beta testing,is there a reason you dont want IE7.

Click the '+' left of update, Tick box for 'Don't show this update again'.

i just switched to ie8 and its stoping me from geting to uther files becuse of it so does anyone know how to switch back
ps:i have vista
