Hi, Can anyone please tell me how I can identify the cpu I have in my computer (without taking it apart) Windows xp pro reports that it is an unknown cpu. It is suppossed to have an Athlon XP 2500+ in but Windows says it is running at 1.1Ghz, shouldn't this cpu be running at 1.83Ghz ? Also the mobo sets itself up to the cpu and it is only running a 100MHz FSB. Thanks in advance for any help.
It sounds to me like you have a 2500 Athlon but that the mobo has defaulted to fail safe defaults. You will have to set the CPU in the Bios to get the full speed from it - this is not an uncommon situation
Thanks for that everyone, I now have it running at 1.83GHz. But windows still won't identify the cpu ! Does, because it nows runs at 1.83, it prove that its an Athlon XP 2500+ Barton ? , which is what I ordered.
