Is it seen in the BIOS?
Do you have anything else coupled to the same channel?
Have you checked the jumper setting, Master / Slave?

Tried it on all 3 jumper settings. Not seen in bios. What do you mean when you say anything else coupled to same channel? There is only 1 ide port on the mobo.i'm thinking i should try disconnecting the sata dvd/rw to see if the ide 1 is seen then.

ide 1
I take it the DVD drive is the only IDE drvice in your PC

Make sure the IDE channel is "enabled" in the BIOS

nothing to do with ide in bios. only some thing to do with sata and ide.
