IDE cable?

  Marky_Bhoy 15:09 28 Feb 2004

I bought a LG DVD rom as part of a computer that I am building.

However it I mistakenly bought an OEM version. Therefore I was not supplied with any cables.

Does the a DVD ROM use the same IDE (80 pin) cable as my hard drive?

yes it should but if a new system you need a 16core cable for hard drive

If you are building a new PC why not use the new style IDE round cables (80 wire 40 connector). Their snaller area helps substantially in the internal cooling of the PC by allowing greater air flow. I purchased mine from Microdirect Manchester at around £7 each. This is the type I mean

Thanks for the reassurance .

SEASHANTY - the tutorial link you provided was very good.

I was actually planning on buying the new style cable that you describe. You may want to look at eubyer's website. There a hell of a lot cheaper. click here

handy4x - sorry. dont know what you mean by 16core cable for HD?

Certainly cheap at ebuyer. They are dropping in price as more people use them. At Microdirect now
the ATA100 round are £3-53 and ATA133 round £4-70.
Good to see that MD now have a newly designed web setup. Good luck with the newbuild PC.
