Right click a blank area of your desktop and select properties. Then Settings and move the slider to increase the screen resolution.

Tick for resolved (If it is?)

Right click on the desktop when the display properties box appears click on the appearance tag click on advanced, then in the item box select icon the icon size is set at 32 I altered mine to 23 and I find it to just the right size for my choice. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the box then click on the apply button on the remaining box, and I have my resolution set at 1024x768; then right click on the desktop again arrange icons and uncheck the align to grid and put a tick alongside auto arrange. And that's it.
