Icon text has coloured background on Desktop

Anybody help please regarding an annoying irritating problem.
I have accidently changed something in my desktop properties regarding the display, god knows how i've managed it. All my icons are fine and work ok, however, the text beneath the icons now has a coloured background that resembles a box and fits the text. Prior to this all i had was text only on top of my wallpaper. I have gone through everything in the settings and in advanced and all i can seem to do is change the colour of the box, there is nothing that suggests 'no background colour'
It's doing my head in.
OS is Windows XP Pro. + SP1

Many thanks.

Right click on desktop, choose "Arange Icons By" and untick the "Lock web Items on the Desktop". That should remove the background and leave cleaer text showing.
