IBM Thinkpad 600e DVD Player problems

  Never again 08:02 23 Jan 2004

My friend has just purchased a reconditioned 600e Thinkpad with 64mb ram and p200 processor with 3gb hdd and running win98se

We seem to have traced a acrobat manual and most of the drivers, but the dvd player is painfully slow - even slower than slow motion.

I have enabled dma in display settings, which did not seem to make much difference, but in device manager there are 2 unknown devices in other devices with yellow exclaimation marks so I am assuming that these are related to the problem, although I don't know what they are.

any ideas would be welcome..

You could try deleting the items that have the exclamation marks, then restart the laptop and see what happens.

Thanks AubreyS

I've just rebooted and windows has detected an unknown device but qwe don't know what it is or what are the right drivwers t install for it, or where the location of the drivers may be for this device.

Following the "next" prompts just lets windows recognise it as an unknown device with a yellow exclaimation mark - but now there is only one insterad of 2.

If you can use DVD (read from it), it means that the driver is recognised correctly. I think it is hardware problem, I do not think your friend's machine is able to play DVD movie.
