IBM T20 Thinkpad HDD problem

I have just inherited a T20 Thinkpad with no operating system.

When I power up the unit (to install 98se) it doesn't recognise the hard drive.

I have re-installed the drive to ensure it is seated correctly. It clicks when switched on so there must be power there.

Also, It is not recognised in the Bios

Any ideas?

Could be that the disk is damaged - that is what it sounds like as it is not being recognised.

If you have a local pc shop they may be willing to sell you a new hdd on use or return basis so that you can try a new one.

Try running Drive Fitness Test from click here

Its always difficult to be certain if a laptop has a dead drive, or another fault preventing it from recognising it.

Substitution for a known good drive is the most reliable method to determine this, you might find a local shop prepared to let you try one for a small fee or no fee at all if they think you might by a drive from them.

Good luck
