i3 1.9GHz vs i5 1.6GHz - Laptop advice

  BananaPhone 14:54 06 Jan 2014

Ok so I'm not very tech minded so please bear with me! I'm toying between two laptops, the HP Pavilion touch smart (i5 1.6GHz) or the Sony Vaio FitE14 (i3 1.9GHz). Apparently i5 is better but because of the lower GHz rating do I not go for this laptop or does the lower GHz rating really not make that much of a difference? I'm confused as to whether a higher GHz but with an i3 is better/worse than a lower GHz with an i5.

Also I am slightly swaying towards the HP because of its touchscreen, but any advice would be much appreciated!

Without a doubt the i5 is better

Even with lower GHz? How much impact will that have on performance?

I presume your looking at the I5 4200u 1.6ghz in the Hp Pavilion 15" laptop and the i3 3227u 1.9ghz in the smaller sony 14" laptop?
