I need to unlock my Wireless Broadband

  Ex plorer 11:10 02 Oct 2009

Hi my son has come for a week or two and needs to set his laptop up on my Tiscali wireless broadband.
I have my wireless hidden and password protected how do we get him connected.

You will have to "unhide" your Router's SSID so that your son's Laptop can find it when he scans for "Available Wireless Networks". He then highlights that network and selects the option to "Connect". At that point, he will have to enter the WEP/WPA encryption key and should then connect to the network and have internet access.

A "profile" is saved so that his Laptop will connect automatically in future when that network is available. Also, there is a setting in the Properties of the Network Connection to connect even if the network isn't broadcasting, so this will have to be enabled if you set the router back to hiding its SSID.

SSID and Encryption key are Setting's in the Router, If you know the Address for the router you can get to the settings using Internet Explorer and put the Router Address into the Address bar at the top of IE

Hi in the task bar its showing Connection Excellent strength 54.0 MBPS.
Each time we try to connect it puts up Connect to Tiscali with Connecting to wan miniport (PPPOE) and then starts to redial.
On the laptop it shows nothing sent or received and a yellow pad-lock on it.
I can get into configaration manager OK.
Followed all the above.

Try it set to PPPoA thats what mine runs at

Thank you all for your time and advice, we got there eventually.

I thought I was connected last night but it seems not.
In the system tray it says connected.
When I tried a repair it tries to renew the IP address.
The IP is different to mine.
The connection is called the same as mine and it has the same 26-digit code.

Have you tried changing the PPPoE settings in router to PPPoA?

  Ex plorer 17:03 03 Oct 2009

In broadband Conection properties (Network Tab) the choice is only pppoe.
